Philadelphia Salon
If you are looking for a salon in Philadelphia, you definitely need to check out the Richard Nicholas Hair Studio
Here are a few things customers have been saying about this salon:
I have lived in Philadelphia forever and have to tried every saloon in town. I was never fully satisfied with my hair until I met Joe M. at Richard Nicholas.
In my opinion he is the best stylist/colorist in this city. He is great to talk to and has kept my hair cut and color updated over the years. Richard Nicholas has great service and always accommodates my busy schedule.
-----
I have been trying to find a colorist to meet my expectations since I moved to Philly 4 years ago and it has been an ongoing battle! I am incredibly particular with my hair, which I believe most women are. However, I ventured to Richard Nicholas Friday and received the most amazing color! I can't help looking at my hair with a feeling of satisfaction. FINALLY I have someone I can trust to do my color for my wedding!!! Thank you Rebecca, you were so sweet and listened to what I really wanted! I promise to send all of my friends in.
Pros: Rebecca my colorist!
Cons: Not knowing about this place sooner.
-----
I don't say this lightly, but Richard Nicholas really did give me with the best haircut I have ever had. I have seriously (unintentionally) abused my hair over the past 1 1/2 weeks since my haircut ranging from wind drying my hair in the car, not washing it, washing it, not brushing it, over brushing it, putting product in, and not using any product.
Throughout it all, I still have an amazing haircut and have received compliments on it throughout the last 1 1/2 weeks. While Joey provided steps for his trainee which, I think, included a physics equation, he and Abigail were absolutely meticulous in their care and attention to my hair and my comfort level. The result is a cut that is low maintenance and looks good in many settnings, a difficult feat for someone with very curly and thick hair. Hats off!!
Pros: Incredible cut, staff is very detail oriented, customer is really cared for
Cons: None

Gabby is learning to cut hair under the supervision of Joey, a stylist that works at the salon. I volunteered for the workshop class and she did a fabulous job! I was also able to learn a lot about my own hair and different types of products I can use. My hair is very thick and curly and she perfected a cut that will help me manage my hair better. Thank you, Gab you did a great job!

Moved here from Chicago. Desperate to find a stylist who could work with thick wavy hair, I turned to City Search for help. I read the reviews on Maria Finizio, picked up the phone and ask for her. Call it coincidence and serendipity... my search has end.
Maria, Thanks. The haircut is great the conversation engaging and fun. See you soon and thanks for saving my hair color too!
I've been going to RN for three years, and it's by far the best salon I've ever been to. I wouldn't trust my hair to anyone but Danielle. She just straightened my hair with a new Keratin Complex Relaxer and it looks Fantastic. After trying everything to straighten my color treated, thick, frizzy, out-of-control hair, Danielle solved my problem and even gave me an outstanding cut as well! The process is great because it didn't change the makeup of my hair like other straighteners. It won't leave that obvious line when it grows out. No burning, no lost hair, just great hair! I just blow-dry it now without spending time with a straight iron and tons of money on product. I've referred quite a few personal friends to Danielle George at RN. She's the Best.

It's always been a challenge for me to find the right hair stylist in the city until I found Richard Nicholas. You're immediately greeted by great receptionists that make you feel good for being there, along with the attractive and stylish atmosphere of the interior. Danielle George has always approached my hair with sophistication and personality at a professional level. She walks you through the cut so you never feel insecure about the process and you know exactly what's going on. She's creative and can educate you with the great hair products that are available at the salon. After all is said and done, she leaves you feeling rewarded with your experience at Richard Nicholas for a reasonable price.

If you have curly hair and have been searching for a place to get your haircut for years...this is the place. I was referred here by a random person I met at a party whose hair I loved, she found Richard Nicholas by stopping someone on the street who had an awesome curly haircut. This speaks volumes of how great the cuts are. I went to see Rose. I was very nervous because of all the bad experiences I had in the past, very nervous, and i wanted to cut off alot of hair so she took her time and cut my hair in steps. Not only did I have a totally relaxing and enjoyable experience but I left with the most amazing haircut I had ever had. I have since gone back to Rose 6 times and have tried different cuts and have never left unhappy.
If you have curly hair and need a great cut see Rose at Richard Nicholas.
The price was grea as well. For an amazing haircut it was $50. I would rather pay $50 for a great haircut then 30 for a very bad one somewhere else. This place is great, they treat me well, and never make you feel out of place. SOrry can you tell Im a fan. If you have curly hair and have always left salons crying and finally got a great cut for once in your life you would be too

Richard Nicholas Salon gives a great cut and they are in a convinient location. Ask for Jess. They carry bumble and bumble products
Pros: best stylists in town!
Cons: none!

I moved to Philadelphia from NYC 8months ago. Since moving I have had several mediocre haircuts and 1 bad one, I finally decided to go back to NY to get my hair done by my amazing stylist that I've been going to for years.
Then, by some twist of fate I meet a woman in our offices, her hair is beautiful, really sharp, creative, but still professional. I ask her and she sends me to Liz at Richard Nicholas, now, I am a little skeptical after all the terrible cut's I've had, plus I have curly hair, this woman had straight. Maybe this Liz didn't do curly hair? Did i really want to risk another bad experience? Could my hair handle it? I already had the appointment at my old salon in NY. But I couldn't get over how great this woman's hair was.
So I did it. I made the appointment with Liz ( I still kept the one in NY just in case, don't judge me!)
I don't even have the words to describe how great i feel, this was by far the best cut/style i have ever gotten. Especially with my curls, it's perfect!
Liz was great, she made me feel right at home, and listened to everything i told her about what I was looking for, how much time i wanted to put into styling, we even booked some color in 2 weeks to really show off the cut. I can't wait! After the hr I spent with Liz, I left feeling like i not only found a really great stylist that "gets it", but also like I made a friend, how great is that? She was fantastic and I look forward to my next appointment with her. Plus, on my way home I had 3 different women and 1 man at the coffee shop tell me they liked my hair. That has never happened to me in my 30 years, I already loved the cut, now I felt even better!
Oh, and P.S. I canceled the appointment in my NY salon, I don't think I'll be going back there again.
Pros: Best Haircut Ever. Close Parking Lot. Good Prices.
Cons: none

I went to Richard Nicholas the other day, it was my first time. I recently moved to Philadelphia but have yet fount a place to get my hair done at. I was recommended to go to Rose by a few of my co-workers. I am so very pleased that I listened!! She is the best! I have curly hair and have struggled my whole life to get a great haircut and color that made my curls look beautiful. Rose knew exactly how to bring out the true beauty of my hair, she gave me great tips onhow to style my hair and which produts would work best. She was very sweet. Rose did such a great job and I cannot wait to go back. I have been getting so many compliments and have been feeling great ever since i left the salon!
Thank you rose you are the absolute best!

Maria at Richard Nicholas Salon never lets me down. She's an amazing stylist and colorist. Maria listens to what you want and always cuts your hair better than than you imagined. She's great at understanding what you want at then creating it. It's always worth my time and money because when I get out of Maria's chair I feel and look great. I highly recommend her. The staff at Richard Nicholas Salon is very personable and will make your hairstyling experience a pleasure. Try it. You will be very satisfied that you did.
I just recently got my first amazing haircut and it was at Richard NIcholas Hair Studio! My stylist was Rose, she was so sweet and knew exactly what i wanted!
i have really curly hair and every stylist that has ever put their hands on my head has given me harsh layers but Rose knew exactly how to cut and blend my layers so they didn't look like stacks or steps! She suggested different techniques on how to style my hair to prevent frizz and how to apply the product to my massive amount of hair. She gave so many good tips! I am finally not ashamed of my horrible curls they look beautiful! Thanks to Rose!!
I'm going back for color!

I have stalked Lizz since she has been at Bubbles! haha!
I didn't know much about hair, so I went to the closest place I knew, and I got set up with Lizz. Well, from then on, I knew that NO ONE would EVER touch my hair again! I told her that she better not move to LA and start working on celebrities, because it's going to cost me so much to fly out there-- but I still would!
Seriously though, she is the best hair stylist I know. I always say, "Do whatever you want," and I always leave MORE than happy.
I HIGHLY recommend this salon (especially Lizz) to EVERYONE (I always do!)
Pros: Lizz Bierman is there
Cons: I don't get to go enough
-----
I've been styled here since '97. I love the great work Joe Matteo does, and my narcissistic side loves the compliments that ensue.
I've read about other salons where clients talked about horrible vibes and sadly insecure people who projected their stuff on them.
Huh? In over eight years of getting cut (and occasionally colored) at Richard Nicholas, I've always felt like this was a place I was glad -- no thrilled -- to be.
It's also great to see others walking out of here with great hair and great flow. I lived in DC for 10 years and couldn't find a place like this. Should I find myself elsewhere, knowing that Richard Nicholas is just a train or plane away would be more than enough to keep me coming back.
Steve
PS: Great bookshop (with amazing tea in the basement) on the same block. SET

Here are a few things customers have been saying about this salon:
I have nothing but great things to say about this salon! I discovered this salon when I relocated from the NYC Metro area 2 years ago and have never been disapointed.
I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair! Joey has worked with me to create a great style (that I can care for easily) and Rebecca is wonderful with my color--which is no easy task with LOTS of gray and my love of highlighted blonde hair.
The staff is great---and they also have the best shampoos in town.
I can't imagine going anywhere else!
Pros: Skilled Hair Professionals, Nice Ambience, Open 7 Days

As goofy as this may sound, it is so hard to get a decent men's haircut here in the city. I have been to numerous salons here in town, my hair looks great for the first couple of days and then.. A good friend recommended Maria Finizio and I cannot tell you how great this haircut is. It has been over 5 weeks and I wash, towel dry and go. My hair still looks great.
-----
Great cut, great staff, great experience.
Shampoo girl Gabrielle was the highlight of my visit- completely thorough and very personable.

A co-worker of mine discovered Maria Finizio a few years ago. She is undoubtedly the best stylist and colorist in the Philadelphia area. All of her considerable talent and artistry go into giving you the hairstyle and color that you ask for and really want. She can do anything from hip to classic, and her cuts are perfection. Thanks, Maria!

Maria at Richard Nicholas Salon never lets me down. She's an amazing stylist and colorist. Maria listens to what you want and always cuts your hair better than than you imagined. There is no mystery here. Experience matters when it comes to hair cutting. Price is no object when it comes to a great cut. The ideal situation is to find a stylist whose scissor's edge stays on top of "trends" as well as can handle the classic strong hair cuts. Maria Finizio has the confidence, the experience and all the technigues to keep my hair current and classic. Great personality, knowledeble about hair and color. I was relaxed in her chair.
Thanks, Maria! See you soon.

I started going to Lizz at her last salon and followed her to Richard Nicholas. She does awesome blowouts - I always go to her when I have a special night. She can do amazing things with curls. She also cuts my hair and I always get the best look - even days after I leave the salon. She knows really well how to make curly hair look great curly and straight and that's not an easy thing! On top of it, she's a blast to talk to. She always has some new thing going on. On don't be fooled by her fun, crazy pink hair or outfits - she will only go dramatic with your hair if you ask =)
Pros: Staff is friendly and they have coupons for certain days
Cons: Besides the staff, the steel and grey colors are kind of harsh

Thanks for the great cut Maria, it was so nice chatting with you. I really love my new style, I feel so much younger. See you in 6 weeks for color.

Maria cut my hair 2 weeks ago. I am a 43 Yo, busy mom who like to looks current but hates to fuss too much with my hair. I drove ALL the way from NEW HOPE to have her cut my hair because she is so talented! I have not stopped getting compliments and hardly have to do much after washing it..I towel dry... and I'm on my way..AND it looks awesome!!! I also appreciated that she listened to my needs and didn't just do what SHE wanted...she gave suggestions and worked with me. I HIGHLY recommend this stylist!

Very few times in my short life have a I had such an experience like the one I had at Richard Nicholas Hair Studio. Through word-of-mouth, I heard wonderful things about the OVERALL experience one receives at Richard Nicholas.
I was lucky enough to have Rose as my stylist. A cute, bubbly early 30's stylist who was nothing short of spectacular. She was very attentive and knew right away how she was going to get to her end result. I had multiple pictures of the style I wanted to achieve. Before the transformation began, we reviewed different angles and came up with a plan of attack in order for the outcome to look identical to the picture.
A gorgeous staff that is happy to help and eager to please. The Richard Nicholas experience is second to none and I am scheduled to go back in a few weeks!

Being born into a hairdressing family I don't take lightly. I picked my first shears up at 15 and have never put them down. I put my heart, soul and all my energy into every haircut I approach. I understand that I cannot satisfy everyone. I am aware this is a risk that comes with consequences, but I can't say it does't shake my foundation at times, but I take the approach of moving a client into territory they have not gone.
